Wolves dominated proceedings in the first half, with Spurs' potent attacking trio barely having a sniff of the ball. Bruno Lage gave a starting debut to Matheus Nunes as well as Goncalo Guedes.
The new boys settled in well but couldn't combine effectively to test Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.
After a drab and dour first half, the game started picking up the pace when Kane nearly opened the scoring just after halftime. He latched on to a header which beat Jose Sa but grazed the woodwork.
The Englishman couldn't be denied for the second time after Ivan Perisic flicked a corner around the Wolves' defence line that found Kane unmarked and with a wide gaping goal in front of him.
Wolves' best chance was through Nunes, whose header beat Lloris but fell inches away from the bottom corner.
As the game wound down, Lage introduced Raul Jimenez, who was making a comeback from injury, and Adama Traore, a previous target of Antonio Conte.
Conte responded by bringing on Ryan Sessegnon for Persic, who had an inspiring home debut and Richarlison. The former Everton manager showed some flashes of brilliance as Spurs hanged on for the precious three points.

FootballHarry Kane snubs Heung-min Son in his perfect Spurs player set-up
Sports Brief had earlier reported that Tottenham Hotspur's lead striker Harry Kane has sent some tongues wagging after he omitted his teammate Heung-min Son from his list of a perfect Spurs player.
The striker engaged in an interactive session with his fans on his social media apps where one user asked him to create a perfect Spurs player, citing one attribute for each player he would choose.
Many would have expected Son to have an automatic place in Kane's setup, given the success the two have enjoyed on the pitch since 2015. After beating Frank Lampard's and Didier Drogba's record in February, the duo holds the record for most goal combinations in Premier League history.
