Chelsea defender Reece James has slammed the refereeing of his side's clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues took on Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, August 14, for the first London derby of the new season.

The clash saw both sides share the spoils, with Tottenham scoring two contentious goals, including Harry Kane's stoppage-time equaliser.

Chelsea took the lead in the first-half of the encounter through new signing Kalidou Koulibaly in the 19th minute and were largely dominant until Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg restored parity in the 68th minute.

Hojbjerg's goal sparked contestation from the blue side, with many suggesting that Kai Havertz was fouled by Rodrigo Bentancur in the build-up.

Richarlison was also adjudged to have been offside when Hojbjerg shot to find the back of the net.

Tuchel and his Tottenham counterpart Antonio Conte went on to engage in a heated exchange in the aftermath of the goal.

However, Chelsea restored their lead soon after with just 13 minutes left on the clock through Reece James, only for Kane to make it 2-2 with the last kick of the match.

Kane's equaliser sparked another argument pitting Tuchel and Conte, before the two tacticians were red-carded.

Speaking after the match, James, who was Chelsea's man of the match, took issue with the officiating of the tie.

According to the Englishman, the Blues stood the best chance of bagging the three points were it not for the refereeing issues.

"There were two arguable goals for them. I think the referees and the fourth official need to look back on them. It’s frustrating for us when you deserve to win the game," James said as quoted by Metro UK.

"I don’t know what they [the officials] were looking at, but we have to take the positives from the game. We were all over them throughout the game," he added.
