His change proved a masterstroke as the Lilywhites got the game's leveller eleven minutes after Richarlison's introduction, however, Conte's joy was Tuchel's pain due to the controversial circumstances of Hojberg's goal.
In what looked like a poor challenge by Bentacur, which should have been a foul, referee Anthony Taylor allowed play to continue as Ben Davies located Hojberg, who did not hesitate to unleash a pile driver into the bottom left corner.
Why did Conte and Tuchel face off in a heated argument?
Tuchel and his coaching staff were enraged by Bentacur escaping what looked like an obvious foul on Kai Havertz.
Referee Anthony Taylor and the officials deemed the incident too far back in passages of play to negate Hojberg's equalizer which sparked the heated debate.
It was not the last time both coaches clashed as the duo had to be pulled apart after the end of the game.
