Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their efforts to sign a striker after an intervention from their former interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick is understood to have advised striker Sasa Kalajdzic not to join Manchester United despite the club stepping up their efforts to secure him.

Kalajdzic, who plies his trade with German side Stuttgart, is one of the many options that current boss Erik ten Hag is looking at.

It has been a pretty slow window than anticipated for Ten Hag, with only three arrivals so far. There is an understanding that the club needs an attacker and Kalajdzic had emerged as a potential target.

The 25-year-old has scored 24 goals in 58 appearances for Stuttgart. He also plays for the Austrian national side, where Rangnick is the national team manager.

The Daily Mail reports that Rangnock has advised him to stay in Germany, arguing that he will be better off in the Bundesliga.

Rangnick's bitter fallout with United seems to be far from over. The German was supposed to continue as the club's consultant upon the expiry of his short-term contract. However, he called it quits and has continued calling out the club for not listening or heeding his advice.

Javier Hernandez reveals that he is ready to play for free for Manchester United

Sports Brief had earlier reported that former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has offered to play for free for his former club as their poor transfer season continues.

Manchester United was set for a major transfer spree this summer after a lethargic season that saw them record their lowest-ever tally in history. New boss Erik ten Hag was supposed to spearhead the summer activity.

However, the club has only brought in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. The striking department remains a major concern, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo's future still uncertain.
