  • Manchester United have been offered a temporary solution of sorts by their former player Javier Hernandez
  • Widely known as Chicharito, the striker has offered to play for free should he return to Old Trafford before the end of his career
  • Manchester United are currently grappling with attacking options with Anthony Martial out with injury while Cristiano Ronaldo is not yet 100 per cent fit

Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has offered to play for free for his former club as their poor transfer season continues.

Manchester United was set for a major transfer spree this summer after a lethargic season that saw them record their lowest-ever tally in history. New boss Erik ten Hag was supposed to spearhead the summer activity.

However, the club has only brought in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. The striking department remains a major concern, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo's future still uncertain.

The Mirror now reports that Chicharito is ready to offer a stop-gap solution to his former employers. The Mexican striker was part of Sir Alex Ferguson's illustrious career that saw him win two Premier League titles under the retired manager.

Chicharito, currently in Major League Soccer, insists his current loyalties lie with LA Galaxy but did not rule out a return to Old Trafford.

I also want to be very respectful to my club. I am playing consistently, and in my mind, my conviction is about winning a championship with LA Galaxy.

The 34-year-old also pinned United's struggles in the last nine years to Ferguson's exit. The striker quipped that the club needed to face the reality that the Scot was no longer at the club for them to make huge strides forward.

Manchester United pull out of the deal to sign Marko Arnautovic

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United have pulled out of a move for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic in another transfer twist.

Erik Ten Hag was initially considering a move for the 33-year-old former Stoke City striker, having previously worked with him at FC Twente.

But the Old Trafford club ultimately decided against pursuing the deal but are still in the market for a top striker in Europe.
