Gerard Pique has decided to take some huge personal costs to help Barcelona register its new players following the Catalans financial crisis.

Barcelona has brought in Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Frank Kessie, and Andreas Christensen while they also renewed the contract of Ousmane Dembele.

The Spanish giants have however failed to register any of these players for the upcoming season after failing to meet La Liga’s regulations due to their financial troubles.

According to the Tribuna, Gerard Pique has agreed to cancel his current contract with Barcelona and sign a new one with a reduced wage to help the club register its new players.

After Barcelona's attorneys discovered "evidence of crime" in the contract signed in 2020 while Bartomeu was in control, the club requested that Pique, De Jong, Ter Stegen, and Lenglet nullify their current contracts and return to their previous ones.

Meanwhile, former Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu have hit out at the allegations made by the club’s current board questioning the legalities of the contract extensions signed under him.

Bartomeu claims Barcelona's accusations are without merit as the contract extensions given to the players had been approved by the club's attorneys and outside auditors Barca Universal reports.

Barcelona had claimed that there was an element of ‘criminality’ involved in the extensions signed by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong, Gerard Pique, and Clement Lenglet, which makes them null and void.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona could file a lawsuit against its players comprising of Frenkie de Jong, Clement Lenglet, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the La Liga club deemed all players’ contract extensions to be illegal.

All players had signed a contract extension with the club in 2020 under the regime of former Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The current administration of Joan Laporta and have found the contract extension handed to all players including Gerard Pique by Josep Bartomeu to be illegal.
