Barcelona could file a lawsuit against its players comprising of Frenkie de Jong, Clement Lenglet, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the La Liga club deemed all players’ contract extensions to be illegal.

All players had signed a contract extension with the club in 2020 under the regime of former Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

According to Barca Universal, the current administration of Joan Laporta and have found the contract extension handed to all players including Gerard Pique by Josep Bartomeu to be illegal.

Barcelona attorneys may advise initiating a case against Bartomeu and his board since they have discovered indications of criminal activity in these transactions Tribuna reports.

Due to this, the court could declare these contracts unenforceable and the players would be required to repay the difference between their former contracts and the sums they were paid by Barcelona under those contracts.

Frenkie De Jong still prefers Barcelona over Chelsea

Meanwhile, Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong wants to remain with Barcelona and is not keen to depart the club this summer despite interest from Chelsea SB Nation reports.

The 25-year-old still prefers Barcelona over Chelsea despite the Premier League club apparently willing to not only match his salary but cover his deferred wages as well.

Barcelona extended De Jong’s contract by two years, to 2026, while also deferring €18m of salary from the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

Barcelona trying to rip up Frenkie De Jong’s contract

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona are threatening to take legal action against Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong over alleged criminality with his new deal signed with the club in 2020.

The Catalan giants are looking for all means to offload the Dutch midfielder this summer or find a means for him to reduce his salary package to ease the club’s financial pressure.

Barcelona has reportedly told Frenkie de Jong that they want to rip up his current contract and revert back to the original terms he signed in 2019.
