Tottenham boss Antonio Conte lightly declared the Premier League and Champions League should be the objectives for his side ahead of the new season.

Asked whether a domestic cup would constitute a successful season, Conte said as per SunSport

“Why not Premier League and the Champions League? (Laughs) My target and the club’s target is to improve. It’s the process we started seven months ago. If you get a place in the Champions League it doesn’t mean you’ve achieved your target.

Conte took over at the North London club in November 2021 at a time when Spurs were in the bottom half of the table under Nuno Espirito Santo.

In six months, the Italian turned Tottenham’s fortunes around, helping the side to a fourth place finish on the log, at the expense of Arsenal.

“My experience brings me to say we’re going in the right direction. At the same time, I know the club needed another step to be competitive with the top teams in Europe.” Conte added as per Football London.

Spurs’ summer business has also been quite impressive, as they brought in Richarlison from Everton, as well as Yves Bissouma (Brighton), Ivan Perisic (Inter) Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona and Fraser Forster (Southampton).

Arteta hoping for better start to new season

Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta expressed optimism that Arsenal will have a far better start to the league season compared to 2021/22 where they lost their opening three games.

The Gunners travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in their first game of the new season, and Arteta admitted there was a wave of optimism within his team.
