Former coach of Ebusua Dwarfs, J.E.A Sarpong, has disclosed how ex-captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan helped him settle his rent.

J.E.A Sarpong coached Asamoah Gyan during his Senior High School days at Accra Academy before the footballer left for Europe.

In an interview with Ghanaian journalist Ernest Brew Smith, the veteran coach disclosed he was on the brink of getting evicted when Gyan came to his rescue.

"I was unable to pay for my rent after the death of my mother so I reached out to Asamoah Gyan and told him how urgent I need his help because I wouldn't have gone to him if it was not that serious. I told him I'm not asking for a house but money to settle my rent allowance,” coach J.E.A Sarpong said as quoted by Pulse.

"He promised to give me the money after a Black Stars game and he did even though I thought he might change his mind as always because the team didn't even get a favourable result in that game.
"He gave me GHc7000 cash in a brown envelope and I immediately gave the money to a friend I was with because he can change his mind.”

Coach J.E.A Sarpong and Gyan worked together before he move to Europe to continue his career.

Gyan is revered in Ghana for his love to help people. He is Ghana's all-time leading scorer with 51 goals from 109 games.

Asamoah Gyan's father reveals how proud he is of his son

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that father of Ghana's football icon Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan Mensah, has revealed how proud he is of his legendary son.

Asamoah Gyan is revered globally for his exploits in football, which includes holding the record of scoring the most goals as an African player at the World Cup.

In a video posted on social media, spotted by Sports Brief, Gyan's father expressed his admiration for his son, praising his achievements.
