FootballMuhsin Ertugral Says That Co Coaching Will Only Work at Mamelodi Sundowns After Fadlu Davids Doubts Its Merits
- The concept of co-coaches is currently the rage in the Premier Soccer League, but one former coach thinks it can only work at one club
- Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral believes that only Mamelodi Sundowns can pull this off
- This is not long after ex-Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids came out and said that it did not work with him and Mandla Ncikazi at the Buccaneers
Co-coaching will only work at Mamelodi Sundowns.
This is the plain opinion of Muhsin Ertugral as the concept gains traction in the Premier Soccer League. Leading the Brazilians' technical staff are the "three musketeers" of Rhulani Mokwena, Steve Khompela and Manqoba Mngqithi. Lamontville Golden Arrows has a similar setup going with Mabhudi Khenyeza and Vusimuzi Vilakazi.
According to IOL, Ertugral said:
“You can’t copy that. Sundowns have a unique story. And it has become a successful story for years now. So, to copy that it’s going to be difficult. You can’t copy coaching and responsibilities by just putting coaches together. It won’t work. I think for Sundowns it’s been a very unique story.”

Sundowns became the first team in the Premier Soccer League era to employ two or more equal coaches. In the 2005-06 Castle Premiership campaign, Neil Tovey and Miguel Gamondi both guided the team to the league title.
Ertugral's thoughts came just after former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids said that working alongside Mandla Ncikazi did not quite work, as was reported by iDiskiTimes.
He said:
“Although we have a good working relationship, the co-coaching concept has its challenges. Basically, this co-coaching concept does not work. There will always be a compromise on either side with most decisions we take. Because although you may both agree on the outcome you want, the application of achieving that outcome will 9/10 times differ.
