  • Kaizer Chiefs junior teams have been collecting silverware lately while the senior side fumbles around
  • Fresh off winning the DStv Diski Shield last Saturday, reserve team coach Vela Khumalo hopes this can inspire the main team at Naturena
  • The Amakhosi also won the prestigious Engen U-18 Knockout Challenge during a highly successful July

Kaizer Chiefs' seven-year-long trophy drought can come to an end if the exploits of the club's juniors filter through to the senior squad.

This is the hope of reserve team coach Vela Khumalo following their 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC this past Saturday to clinch a second DStv Diski Shield win in the last four seasons.

Khumalo told SowetanLIVE:

"We have done this for every Khosination, maybe this is going to open the floodgates, we want to bring trophies back to Chiefs. We are saying let's do it right in the development and this must be contaminated to the first team.

"We won the Engen and now winning the Shield, winning has become second nature to us, it's all about winning. And for Kaizer Chiefs, we want to win all the time."

Chiefs' under-18 team defeated Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties earlier this month after their Engen U18 Knockout Challenge final finished 1-1, as per the club's website.

Elsewhere, founder and chairman Kaizer Motaung was bestowed with an honorary doctorate in social sciences by the University of Cape Town for his contribution to football and social development in South Africa, as per Soccer Laduma.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral expects Mamelodi Sundowns to continue dominance

They can huff and they can puff, but Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates won't be able to blow down the house Mamelodi Sundowns has built any time soon.

As reported by Sports Brief, this is the blunt thought of Muhsin Ertugral, who once occupied the main chair in the dugouts of the Amakhosi and the Buccaneers.

Chiefs and Pirates have signed well from the transfer market during the off-season, but Ertugral reckoned this wouldn't be enough to topple Sundowns just yet.
