  • De Gea has vowed Man United will never repeat the ‘emarassing mess’ of last season
  • The Red Devils, under two different managers, could only manage a sixth place finish, more than 30 points behind both Liverpool and Manchester City
  • The United goalkeeper admitted his side had a disastrous campaign as the trophy drought raged on

David De Gea has boldly claimed Manchester United should not repeat the ‘disaster’ that was the 2021/22 campaign.

The Spanish goalkeeper was one of the few Manchester United players who openly showed his discontent with some of the performances, as the Old Trafford landlords continued their trophy drought.

United went on to record their worst point tally in the club’s history (58), an things would have been much worse as they were on the verge of playing in the Europa Conference league had it not been for West Ham United’s late-season slip up.

In the 38-game campaign, the Red Devils lost 12 times.

“For me and everyone it was a very tough season, embarrassing sometimes.” De Gea admitted as quoted by The Sun.

“Some games were a mess, a disaster.

“So we should learn from last season that that cannot happen again because it was tough, it was painful to be there.

“We were not capable to win games and losing games 4-0 or 5-0, it was unacceptable.

United under Ten Hag

Under their new manager Erik Ten Hag, United are however looking good, and there are glimpses that the Dutchman has potential to bring the club back to their glory days.

The Red Devils have played three games in preseason so far, winning all of them and scoring 11 goals in the process.

Their final match of preseason will be against Aston Villa on Saturday, July 23.
