Thomas Lemar will remain in the Spanish capital until the summer of 2027.

The French attacking midfielder is entering the last year of his contract with Atletico Madrid and was reportedly on the outs after refusing to renew his contract.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was rumoured to be disappointed with the Frenchman’s contribution to the team and willing to part ways with him.

As noted by Caught Offside, Everton and Arsenal were both offered a chance to sign the attacker. However, both English sides passed on the chance to do so.

With his options seemingly running out, Lemar opted to extend his contract and remain in the Spanish capital. Football Espana reported that Lemar took a 50% pay cut in order to remain with the club until 2027.

The Frenchman joined Atletico Madrid from Monaco in 2018 and has made 142 appearances for the Spanish side. He has scored nine goals and created 17 assists during that time.

Atletico have also renewed the contract of their goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, as they look to challenge once again for the La Liga title. Atletico finished third on the table last season, coming behind Barcelona and eventual La Liga champions, Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid players are having their energies zapped after undergoing intense drilling in their preseason training at Los Angeles de San Rafael by manager Diego Simeone.

The Rojiblancos have been in the mountains towards Segovia for a traditional two-week training camp as they fine-tune preparations ahead of the new season.

According to Sport Bible, Atleti's fitness coach, Oscar Ortega, had a special ramp area built behind the training pitch for the squad to be beasted as several drills were outlined for the players.
