Germany’s RB Leipzig Ripped Apart in Preseason Friendly Against England’s Liverpool at Red Bull Arena

RB Leipzig put on a good performance in the first half but were comprehensively beaten by visiting Liverpool in a pre-season friendly.

The German side hosted the Reds at the Red Bull Arena and found themselves a goal down in the eighth minute.

Mohamed Salah put the visitors in the lead thanks to a defensive error by the hosts. With the ball ping-ponging around the box, Roberto Firmino fed Salah who comfortably slotted home.

Leipzig did grow stronger in the first half and should equalised and even taken the lead in the final few minutes of the first 45.

Angelino fired a long-range effort over the bar while Christopher Nkunku had a close-range effort saved by Adrián. Dominik Szoboszlai also missed the chance to punish the Reds from a counterattack but lost the ball before he could finish.

Leipzig would have hoped to start the second half stronger than they started the first, but found themselves another goal down within three minutes of the restart. Péter Gulácsi was adjudged to have brought down Luis Díaz in the box and Darwin Núñez stepped up to convert the spot kick. Núñez then made it three just minutes later when he pounced on a defensive error and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

The Uruguayan then wrapped up his hattrick not too long after, taking Liverpool to a four- advantage. Núñez then scored his fourth, and Liverpool’s fifth, just before the final whistle to cap off an incredible game for the English side.

The Uruguayan centre-forward has been the subject of serious scrutiny from rival fans, following his slow start to life at Liverpool.

Nunez, himself, has not helped matters following his wild misses in Liverpool's pre-season games but the 23-year-old forward bid his time to silence the naysayers the best way he can - netting four times.
