  • Tuchel warned that his side's lack of effort, courage and cutting edge could become costly in the near future

A furious Thomas Tuchel has lashed out at his Chelsea players after they were beaten on penalties by Charlotte FC in a pre-season friendly.

American forward Christian Pulisic handed the Blues the lead at the half-hour mark before Daniel Rios equalised for the hosts at the death.

The match had to be decided via the penalty shootouts, with Charlotte emerging winners after Conor Gallagher missed his effort.

According to The Mirror, the Premier League giants were unable to find a second goal after Pulisic's opener as they failed to take full advantage of their dominance.

Chelsea's ineffectiveness once again raised concerns of missing the necessary firepower to match that of Man City and Liverpool.

Tuchel was quick to note his side's mistakes after the match, with the German warning that Chelsea risk making the same mistakes going forward.

The Blues' boss accused them of lacking effort, courage and cutting edge to down their opponents.

“If we keep on struggling to not feel these things and to not finish these things off when they are, like, to finish, we will not be the first -- it will not be the first time that we get punished," he said as quoted by The Mirror.

“This is what happens if you keep opponents alive, if you keep belief alive, if you keep the stadium alive. Anything can happen in football. That's why we love the game. This is on us," he added.

Raheem Sterling opens up on why he chose to move to Chelsea

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Raheem Sterling had opened up on the moment he realised that it was time for him to make a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The former Man City winger moved to west London in a deal worth £47.5 million to become Chelsea's first signing of the summer.

Sterling's move to Chelsea came at a time when the club needed more firepower up front after the departure of Romelu Lukaku, who moved to Inter Milan on loan.
