  • Ten Hag suggests Man United folded ‘like a pack of cards’ against Melbourne Victory
  • Ten Hag was critical of his side for the way they conceded the first goal against Melbourne Victory
  • United cruised to a 4-1 victory but made an awful start to the game, conceding inside five minutes

The United manager refused to point fingers at individuals, although he acknowledged there were mistakes in defending

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag pulled no punches in an honest assessment of his side after the 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory.

The Red Devils came from a goal down to secure a second successive win in preseason.

It was Chris Ikonomidis who came up with the opener for the hosts, after a brilliant ball was played to him in front of United’s defense after a couple of sleek passes.

Notably, it was the first time Victor Lindelof was paired with Harry Maguire at the heart of defence under Ten Hag.

Despite another emphatic victory, Ten Hag was rather critical of his side for the manner in which they conceded the goal.

"I know, I don't want to talk about the individual because I think it was from the start, high up the pitch, the wrong choices and then it ends up like a pack of cards," he said in a clip shared by Simon Peach.
"It's not one individual, it is more the team who made mistakes."

United however did well to dust themselves up and the game was turned on its head before half time.

Midfielder Scott McTominay levelled for his side before Anthony Martial got his second goal in as many games for United.

Marcus Rashford then benefited from a pass from Eric Bailly to make it 3-1 before a late own goal completely took the game from the opponents.

United will now shift focus to Crystal Palace, who they face on Tuesday, July 19.

Eriksen’s first words as a Man United player

Meanwhile, Manchester United on Friday completed the signing of Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international’s move to United marks an incredible return to football after he came close to passing away.

Speaking to United's club website, Eriksen described the club as 'special' and is raring to go.

“Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling."
