Thousands thronged this year’s Evala event in Togo as the country’s football legend and former Arsenal star Emmanuel Adebayor was also spotted.

The évala are traditional festivals during which the famous Kabyé duel fights take place. It is an opportunity for the young évalou to show their power.

UK outlet Petitefute reports that the event usually takes place in mid-July of every year as activities run for a week.

It was gathered that it is the most important event in the country as it features wrestling matches, concerts, theatrical evenings and traditional storytelling.

Adebayor was seen being protected by policemen after he personally graced the occasion, with hundreds of fans trying to catch a glimpse of the superstar.

Taking to Instagram, the 38-year-old shared a clip of the moment he was being led to his car by officers who were protecting him as he made way.

He captioned it:

“SEA, the joy I receive from connecting with my roots and people makes my journey all the more worth the effort I have produced.
“The beautiful people of Kara brought a magical spectacle to this year’s Evala event! Thank you for the wonderful memories. Many blessings to my nation Togo."

Adebayor expresses delight in meeting Nwankwo Kanu

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Adebayor reunited with former Nigerian international Kanu Nwankwo as the ex-Arsenal stars were spotted chilling together during a trip.

Kanu featured for Premier League club Arsenal between 1999 and 2004 playing a total of 198 matches and scoring 44 goals for the club.

Emmanuel Adebayor, however, joined the Gunners in 2006, two years after Kanu had left and the Togolese sensation played in 142 matches and scored 62 goals for the club before his exit in 2009, Just Arsenal reports.

FIFA judgment in favour of Adebayor

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Arsenal forward Emmanuel Adebayor is set to pocket a half-million-dollar payday - after Fifa ruled the striker's club had sacked him unfairly.

Adebayor joined Paraguayan club Olimpia in February 2020 on a one-year deal after leaving Turkish club Kayserispor in December 2019.

But his contract was torn up four months later after Covid-19 halted their season.
