Rampant Man United hit four past Melbourne Victory as Ten Hag secures second victory in charge

Erik Ten Hag secured a second straight victory as new Manchester United boss as the Red Devils came from behind to beat Melbourne Victory in a preseason friendly on Friday, July 15.

United got off to a poor start as they fell behind within the first minute as Melbourne Victory utilized a swift attack for Chris Ikonomidis to slot home at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Red Devils were however dominant on the day, and deservedly got an equaliser at the stroke of halftime through Scott McTominay.

There was still time for a turnaround before the break as Anthony Martial continued to impress the new boss with a goal that turned the game on its head.

As he did in the game against Liverpool days earlier, Ten Hag made ten changes for the second half, giving several youngsters including Ethan Laird, Charlie Savage, Tahith Chong and Zidane Iqbal a chance to impress.

However, it was a veteran, Marcus Rashford, who got in on the act next as he slotted in his side’s third in the 78th minute after some brilliant play from Eric Bailly to take the game completely away from their Australian opponents.

It was 4-1 in the 90th minute, as Edmond Lumpancu scored an own goal which meant United secured another victory under Ten Hag by scoring four goals.

There was a delightful moment before the game as former Red Devil Luis Nani, who recently joined Melbourne Victory, was gifted with a United shirt as a way of marking everything he achieved at the club.
