English midfielder Danny Drinkwater has shed light on his nightmarish five-year stint with Chelsea.
Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2017 after helping the Foxes win the Premier League title in fairytale circumstances.
Just like his Premier League-winning teammates, Drinkwater was expected to hit higher heights and his move to Stamford Bridge was expected to catapult his legacy.
However, what was supposed to be a dream move turned into a nightmare as the 32-year-old struggled to hold down a place throughout his half-decade stay at Chelsea.

Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, Drinkwater admitted the move did not go down as planned but was relieved to end his failed marriage with the Blues.
"I'm relieved because it's clear it wasn't a situation that was good for me or the club," said Drinkwater via MARCA.
"I'm angry because of how it's gone and how I was treated - not bitter though, what ifs. It was a long time coming."
His Chelsea nightmare began when then-boss Maurizio Sarri told him he was no longer needed with just an hour remaining in the 2018 summer transfer window.
"It got to the last hour of the transfer window and [I] got pulled into the office, not expected at all," said Drinkwater. "'Don't think you're going to be in our plans'. This is Sarri, being translated by Gianfranco [Zola]. And I was like 'what?'"

FootballThings grew from bad to worse for Drinkwater in 2019 after a string of off-the-field tragedies.
"I was [suffering with mental health issues in 2019]. Nan passed, grandad passed, dad got diagnosed with Leukaemia, I lost my dog and was drink driving, which is just not me," he said.
"I made a big mistake. I was also fighting for my son, which was going on constantly and takes its toll."
Drinkwater bids Chelsea farewell in a heartfelt message
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Danny Drinkwater has penned a heartfelt and honest message to Chelsea fans in a farewell letter. Drinkwater is set to depart Chelsea after a poor five years in London.
The Englishman will join the books as one of the worst transfers in history. He was signed from Leicester City in 2017 for a fee of around 35 million euros.
It was expected that he would replicate his midfield dominance with N’Golo Kante. The duo formed a solid partnership at Leicester that saw them march to the historic 2016 English Premier League triumph.
