Midfield maestro Luka Modric has opened up on his relationship with Sergio Ramos. The two shared the same dressing room for a couple of years before Ramos left Real Madrid last summer upon the expiry of his contract.

Modric has now confessed that he was shaken when the combative defender left and misses him to date.

Ramos took over captaincy duties at Los Blancos following the departure of celebrated goalkeeper Iker Casillas. He captained the club to immense success including the three consecutive Champions League wins under Zinedine Zidane.

According to Goal, Modric explained how close he was to the Spanish international.

All the departures of players with whom you share years in very successful teams are painful. After nine years, Sergi was gone.

From the first day I arrived, he was close to me, he helped me adapt to Real Madrid, he encouraged me. He believed in my potential. We became great friends, our families got together and we spent the summers together.

We still talk to each other every day, at least through messages. I miss hanging out with him, but that's the way things are in football.

Ramos made the switch to Paris Saint-Germain but had a season riddled with injuries. He won the League title in his debut season while his old club won a record 14th Champions League title and a 35th La Liga title.
