FIFA Ranking: Nigeria Drop, Argentina Overtake France As South American Side Remains Best in the World

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one spot in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday morning, June 23.

Formerly occupying the 30th position, the Nigerian national football team are now the 31st in the world, but they maintain their status as the fourth-best team in Africa.

Jose Peseiro guided the team to back-to-back victories in the African Cup of Nations qualifier following a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in Abuja and then a 10-0 trouncing of Sao Tome and Principe in Morocco.

But they lost two friendly games in the United States earlier against World Cup-bound Mexico and Ecuador, losing 2-1 and then 1-0 respectively.

Senegal maintain their position as the best team on the continent, but the Teranga Lions are the 18th best team in the world.

North African sides Morocco and Tunisia complete the top three best teams in Africa while Cameroon, Egypt, Algeria and Mali are in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Daily Post reports that South American powerhouse Brazil maintain their position as the number one best team in the world, followed by Belgium, Argentina, France, England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark, making the top 10.

Osimhen says there is unity in Super Eagles

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has explained that there is now solidarity in the Super Eagles among the players claiming that the new coach Jose Peseiro has brought togetherness to the team.

Recently the Nigerian Football Federation named Jose Peseiro as the Super Eagles coach after Austin Eguavoen and his coaching crew were dismissed.

Victor Osimhen explained that he and his teammates have been following instructions from Jose Peseiro.

Joe Aribo gets huge recognition

Sports Brief earlier reported that no footballer in the world played more matches and minutes in the world last season than Super Eagles and Rangers star Joe Aribo.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been a regular starter for both club and country and was even deployed as a false 9 in the Europa League final where he found the back of the net.

Aribo has played more games and minutes than any other player in the world as he approaches appearance number 70.
