FootballArsenal Submit Bid to Sign Former Chelsea Striker Alvaro Morata Should Gabriel Jesus Transfer Fall Through
- Arsenal have reportedly submitted an offer to sign Alvaro Morata as Mikel Arteta steps ups efforts to sign a striker
- Morata has been a Chelsea player before but did not perform as expected despite his huge transfer fee
- Arsenal are however more interested in landing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City and will look keenly at other options should the move fail
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is seemingly planning for the eventuality that they can miss out on Gabriel Jesus. Jesus has been on top of Arsenal's transfer wishlist as Arteta looks to sign a striker this summer.
It is now understood that the Gunners are looking into the possibility of signing Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.
Morata has been on loan and Juventus and as Caught Offside understands he already has Premier League experience after playing for Chelsea for one-and-a-half seasons.
However, there will be jitters over Morata's suitability in the Premier League following his disappointing spell at their London rivals. The Spaniard came under sharp scrutiny despite starting life in England on an imperious form.
Morata, now 29 years old scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for Chelsea.
Last season at Juventus was equally poor as he finished the season with 9 goals in Serie A.
But Arteta is willing to bring him back to London should he fail to land Jesus. Arteta is more confident of the Brazilian striker given his expansive Premier League experience and the fact that they have already worked together when he was Manchester City's assistant boss.
