Manchester United's hopes of landing the services of Christian Eriksen have been handed a massive boost after Tottenham Hotspur pulled out of the race to re-sign the midfielder.
The midfield position has been identified as the key department which needs strengthening at Old Trafford.
Eriksen is believed to have been shortlisted for the role, with Erik ten Hag keen to add the Dane within his ranks.
According to Metro UK, the 30-year-old will be out of contract at Brentford at the end of June after a successful six-month spell with the Bees.
The publication claims that United and Tottenham are the most prominent bidders for the 30-year-old, with Ten Hag and Antonio Conte keen on a reunion with the Denmark international.
Eriksen played under Conte at Inter Milan, while he spent the end of 2021 training underTen Hag at Ajax as he recovered from his collapse.

Football.London reports the north London club have failed to follow up on their initial interest, leaving United as the clear favourites to sign him.
It’s claimed that Spurs registered their interest for Eriksen over two weeks ago – just before they signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
However, the Antonio Conte-tutored side are now ‘suddenly distancing themselves’ from a move for their former star thereby handing United a significant boost.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has widely been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Chelsea are believed to be firm favourites to land the Frenchman who has rediscovered his form under Xavi.
