Football"Pitso Mosimane Was Under the Impression That Al Ahly Was Like Mamelodi Sundowns": Al Ahly and Egypt Legend
- Pitso Mosimane's shocking but largely unsurprising departure from Egyptian superclub Al Ahly couldn't have come sooner
- This is the opinion of former Red Devils and Egypt midfielder Mohamed Nagy Geddo amid the fallout from the South African's departure
- Geddo made it clear that he believed Mosimane was under the impression that he could rest on his laurels after the trophies he'd won at the club
Despite winning a truckload of trophies with Al Ahly, Pitso Mosimane was always going to be under pressure from demanding affiliates of the club.
This is what former Red Devils and Egypt star midfielder Mohamed Nagy Geddo after the 57-year-old South African called it quits on Monday with the Cairo-based giants. Geddo felt that morale and trust towards the 57-year-old from within the team had dipped during his final few games in charge.
This is despite the amount of trophies that Mosimane managed to win with the Red Devils since signing up with them in late 2020.
According to IOL, Geddo said:
“The relationship between Mosimane and the Al Ahly board reached its limits. Mosimane thought that Al Ahly was like Sundowns. He thought people would not criticise him if he won trophies.
“He also lost the locker room and players’ support after criticising them publicly like Mohamed Sherif and Hossam Hassan. Al Ahly has been struggling with Mosimane in the recent games. It was his worst period with the team. I believe he chose the right time to leave."
As per Eurosport, Geddo's name is etched forever in African football folklore after scoring the winning goal in Egypt's 1-0 win over Ghana in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations final in Angola.

FootballFresh from the unexpected announcement that he had chosen to part ways with the Egyptian superclub, it appears Pitso Mosimane's path is clear already.
As reported by Sports Brief, the Red Devils announced that the 57-year-old had decided to call it quits with the Cairo-based club less than two years after signing on.
In that time, he led them to two consecutive CAF Champions League titles, two African Super Cups, two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021 and 2022, and an Egyptian FA Cup.
