Despite scoring four goals in Nigeria’s 10-0 thrashing of Sao Tome & Principe in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Victor Osimhen has stated that Rashidi Yekini remains the greatest striker Nigeria ever had.

Osimhen has now scored 15 goals for Nigeria’s senior national team, having made 22 appearances as many believe he could eventually break the goals record set by the late legend.

Score Nigeria reports that Rashidi Yekini scored 37 goals in 62 matches for Nigeria and no player has reached such a feat, but Osimhen who is just 23 years old could smash that record.

Speaking after Nigeria mauled Sao Tome & Principe, Osimhen said as per Brila FM:

“Even if I surpasse the record of Rashidi Yekini for the Super Eagles, I still believe he’s the greatest striker Nigeria ever had.
“I’m happy to help my team, it doesn’t matter if I score four goals and I’m also happy for my teammates who also got their first international goals as well.
“The likes of Ademola Lookman, Terem Moffi and Emmanuel Dennis.”

Napoli reject Arsenal’s offer for Osimhen

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been told by Napoli to up their bid if they are serious about signing Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Gunners have identified the Nigerian striker as a key transfer target as the English Premier League side tries to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Arsenal who have been keen admirers of Osimhen has tabled an opening £51million bid for the Super Eagles striker which has now been rejected by Napoli.

Emmanuel Dennis applauds Ahmed Musa

Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Dennis has thanked Ahmed Musa for the opportunity to score his debut goal for Nigeria as the 3-time Africa champions thrashed Sao Tome 10-0 on Monday, June 13.

The 24-year-old striker scored from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute after coming on as a substitute in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in Morocco.

Dennis has now appreciated Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, who forfeited taking the penalty and offered it to the Watford striker to open his goal account for Nigeria.
