Despite that dominance, they were beaten by the visitors in an exciting encounter.

The Danish side were relentless in the first half as they constantly pressed Croatia, forcing the visitors to make numerous mistakes. Denmark could have scored at least three goals within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Full-back Joakim Mæhle and midfielders, Thomas Delaney, Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikkel Damsgaard caused constant trouble for Croatia while Christian Eriksen was at his excellent best, picking out passes from the centre of midfield.

At the end of the first half, Denmark had 8 shots, but only one on target. Croatia only had the one attempt in the first 45 minutes but it wasn’t on target.

Such was their dominance that Croatia ran the changes at halftime, bringing on Luka Modrić just to have some control in the midfield. They also brought on defender Josip Stanišić and his introduction stopped Mæhle from bombing down the flank constantly.

The changes meant that Croatia had more of the ball and it paid off when they took the lead in the 69th minute thanks to Mario Pašalić. The midfielder bundled the ball through Kasper Schmeichel’s legs in what could only be described as a scrappy goal.

The Danes had chances after that to get a goal back but it didn't seem to be their day. They finished with 13 attempts but only one on target. Croatia hung on for the win to claim their first victory in the tournament and blow the group wide open.
