  • Cameroon Football Federation president, Samuel Eto'o has lashed out at the Indomitable Lions despite their one-nil victory over Burundi
  • Cameroon had numerous chances with 18 attempted shots on goal, but only found the net with a curling free-kick from Karl Toko Ekambi
  • Eto'o, a veteran of four World Cup tournaments, has set a difficult but not an improbable objective for the Indomitable Lions

Legendary Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the Indomitable Lions in their narrow win over minnows Burundi in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The Cameroon football chief was left fuming after the five-time African champions laboured to a one-nil win over the Swallows of Burundi in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

In a video posted on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, a visibly unhappy Samuel Eto'o took a swipe at the players for their wastefulness while threatening the replace the current crop with 'children'.

The Indomitable Lions dominated a hapless Burundi side but failed to put the game to bed owing to their profligacy in front of the goal.

After the game, Eto'o stormed the dressing room of the Cameroonians to voice out his frustrations about the team's total output.

“I am not happy. I don’t care who you play against; you represent Cameroon. I am not happy at all. In my time, I missed the World Cup because I knew what problems I had. Those problems won’t repeat themselves while I’m president.” Eto'o said as quoted by Joy Sports.
"Places in this team will be earned. Nobody, I repeat, nobody has a place guaranteed in this team. You must do your job. Whoever comes here to wear this shirt must do the job, else he goes and I will be happy to have the children play.”

Samuel Eto'o sets a giant objective for Cameroon ahead of World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto'o Fils has set a huge objective for his nation ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Eto'o, who will be the leader of the delegation when Cameroon heads to Qatar 2022, believes the five-time African champions are heading to their eighth World Cup appearance to win the ultimate and not to make the numbers.

Cameroon became the first of three African nations to reach the quarterfinals of the global showpiece but Eto'o wants Rigobert Song's charges to reach Hallowed grounds by winning the World Cup.
