Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on a winning note after coming from a goal down against Sierra Leone.

Jonathan Morsay gave the Leone Stars a surprise 1-0 lead in an empty Moshood Abiola Stadium after beating Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey to nod home.

Sierra Leone almost doubled their lead after a shot from their attacker hit the woodwork following a brilliant save from Francis Uzoho.

The Super Eagles however picked up their tempo and responded as Alex Iwobi equalized to make it 1-1 in the 16th minute following a great build-up play with Moses Simon.

Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles the lead just before halftime after slotting in another Moses Simon assist to make it 2-1 in favour of Nigeria at the break.

The Super Eagles tried to extend their lead in the second half but met a resolute defensive display from the Leone Stars as they failed to cause another upset like they did the last time they battled from four goals down to earn a 4-4 draw against Nigeria.

Nigeria would hold on to earn Jose Peseiro his first victory as Super Eagles Manger after the Portuguese coach had lost his first two games in charge of the national team.
