FootballChelsea Todd Boehly To Give Thomas Tuchel Full Control of the Club’s Transfer Policy
- Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is set to be given full control of the club’s transfer policy by the new owner Todd Boehly
- In the past, Chelsea managers have had close to little say on the players bought by the club but Boehly is ready to change this tradition
- If implemented, this will see Chelsea have a similar policy to its direct rivals in the Premier League Manchester City and Liverpool whose managers have full control of the transfer market
New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is expected to give head coach Thomas Tuchel full control over the type of players that Chelsea buys.
This is the complete opposite of the tradition at Chelsea under Roman Abramovich where the coach was only consulted but the club retained the final say.
The American owner has seemed to hit the ground running as he looks to maintain the high standards set by his predecessor. The Daily Mail also understands that he is expected to avail close to 200 million euros for Tuchel to sign new players.
The majority of that transfer sum will go into acquiring new defenders. Chelsea have lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers. The latter has since joined Champions League winners Real Madrid.
Boehly now wants Tuchel to recommend the players he wants to the sporting director Marina Granovskaia and performance advisor Petr Cech who will ensure the manager gets the players he wants.
This is a similar style adopted by Chelsea’s rivals Manchester City and Liverpool. Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp make the final decisions on the players who arrive at the Etihad and the Anfield stadia respectively.
Tuchel is said to keen on signing Sevilla’s defender Jules Kounde and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol as defensive replacements.
