  • Both England and Germany will be looking for their first victories in the UEFA Nations League when they face each other at the Allianz Arena tonight
  • England were beaten by Hungary in the opening game while Germany were held by a relatively new-looking Italian side
  • Both coaches could make massive changes to their squads as they look to give fringe players an opportunity to earn caps and keep the squad fresh

England will tonight look to return to winning ways when they travel to Munich to face Germany. England fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Hungary at the Puskas Arena over the weekend and Gareth South gate will be desperate to get his side back on track in the UEFA Nations League.

Germany will also be chasing their first victory in the tournament after being pegged back by European champions Italy in Bologna. Hansi Flick’s men were dominant for long periods in the game but a resolute defence from a new-look Italian team kept them at bay.

Match Preview

The hosts have not progressed to the semi-finals of the Nations League since its inception. They have scored in every game under Flick and they are yet to lose a home game under the former Bayern Munich manager.

They will be seeking revenge against England who eliminated them from the Euros 2020. The silver lining is that they are yet to lose a single game since that defeat.

England similarly had not lost a single game since their Euro final loss to Italy prior to their defeat in Hungary. Sports Mole reports that The Three Lions had scored in 14 consecutive matches before Hungary nullified their attack led by the talismanic Harry Kane.

Team News

Hansi Flick could make some wholesome changes to the side that started against Italy. Marco Reus missed that clash due to illness but is in contention to start tonight.

Kai Havertz and Ilkay Gundogan came off the bench and they could replace Timo Werner and Leon Goretzka. New Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi will also be pushing for a start tonight.

James Justin’s first cap for England ended prematurely after he was hooked off at half-time with a calf problem. Kieran Trippier could take the reigns on the right flank. Phil Foden had Covid-19 and should he recover in time, he could face the Germans.

Southgate has Tammy Abraham who is from a fine season at AS Roma should he choose to give Kane a rest.

Possible starting lineups

Germany

Neuer; Kehrer, Sule, Rudiger, Raum; Gundogan, Kimmich; Gnabry, Muller, Musiala; Havertz

England

Pickford; Trippier, Stones, Maguire; Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Phillips, Saka; Sterling, Kane, Grealish

Otto Addo to remain as Black Stars head coach

Sports Brief had earlier reported that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had announced that coach Otto Addo will continue as the man in charge of the national team, the Black Stars.

The 46-year-old will be assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani, with former Norwich manager Chris Hughton serving as technical advisor, per a press statement.

The quartet masterminded Ghana's qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Nigeria in March this year.
