Why Ghana FA Snubbed Chris Hughton For Black Stars Coach Job

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that coach Otto Addo will continue as the man in charge of the national team, the Black Stars.

The 46-year-old will be assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani, with former Norwich manager Chris Hughton serving as technical advisor, per a press statement.

The quartet masterminded Ghana's qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Nigeria in March this year.

They will also be in charge of the Black Stars' AFCON 2023 qualifying matches against Madagascar and the Central African Republic on June 1 and June 5 respectively.

GFA Statement on Black Stars' coaching roles

“The Ghana Football Association has appointed Otto Addo, Chris Hughton, George Boateng, and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as coaches of the senior national team, the Black Stars until the end of December 2022.
“The quartet who masterminded Ghana's qualification to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament will stay on to see to Ghana's preparation to the world cup, the 2023 AFCON qualifiers and the world cup itself,” a statement from the Ghana FA said on Tuesday night.
“This follows an exhaustive negotiation and engagement with all relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“The Coaches will soon name their squad for Matchday 1 and 2 of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nation Cote D'lvoire 2023 qualifiers and the four-nation tournament in Japan.”

Otto Addo Reveals How He Will Combine Dortmund Job With Black Stars Role

Sports Brief earlier reported that soon-to-be-confirmed Black Stars coach Otto Addo has revealed his plans to combine the Ghana job with his Dortmund work.

The World Cup qualifying coach has agreed to be in charge of the senior national team for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers and the FIFA World Cup later this year, but will not relinquish his Dortmund job.

In an interview with Transfermarkt, the 46-year-old revealed that his able assistants Didi Dramani and Francis Bugri play a critical role in the preparation of the team for international assignment.
