Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo made his debut in Ghana's 3-0 win over Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old was introduced in the 75th minute for AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan who got his debut goal for the Black Stars.

The London-born attacker had little time to show his full potential but was very mobile on the pitch within the few minutes he played.

Semenyo missed out on Ghana's World Cup doubleheader against Nigeria in March due to injury but had the opportunity to represent the West African nation in the AFCON qualifiers.

He is expected to play a major role next Sunday when Ghana face Central Africa Republic away from home in the second game.

Semenyo was the leading marksman for Bristol City last season. He was involved in 20 goals for Championship club in the just-ended English second-tier, scoring on eight occasions and providing 12 assists.

Meanwhile, Antoine Semenyo disclosed earlier he wants to follow in the footsteps of Asamoah Gyan following his call-up to the Ghana national team.

While he has been inspired by Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba, it is the former Sunderland forward he hopes to emulate with his conduct on and off the field.

Sports Brief earlier reported that youngsters Mohammed Kudus and Felix Afena-Gyan scored in quick succession before Osman Bukari netted late as Ghana made light work of Madagascar to start the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on a winning note.

The Black Stars got off to a bright start and should have broken the deadlock after three minutes when Jordan Ayew saw his low strike go inches wide.

Ten minutes later Fatawu Issahaku fired from outside the box and missed narrowly before combining with Afena-Gyan two minutes later, but the AS Roma forward's strike was deflected out for a corner kick.
