Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Enyimba FC coach Maurice Cooreman has died.

The Belgium trainer passed away on in his native on Tuesday, leaving fans and former clubs heartbroken.

In a post on Twitter by Nigeria's League Management, the death of the 79-year-old was confirmed.

"Our condolences to the family of Maurice Cooreman following his death in his country, Belgium. He will always remain a legend in the NPFL having worked with multiple clubs as well as winning the title once with Oceans Boys in 2006," a statement from Nigeria's League management read.

Maurice Cooreman coached Kumasi Asante Kotoko between 2008 to 2009, before joining Kaduna United a year later.

He has also had spells at Enyimba FC, Warri Wolves, Gombe United and Akwa United.

Mbella scores as Kotoko beat WAFA in the Ghana Premier League

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that runaway Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko recorded a historic victory at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena when the Porcupine Warriors pipped West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on Saturday afternoon.

Cameroon import Franck Mbella Etouga scored the solitary goal to hand the Porcupine Warriors all-three points in a keenly contested affair.

The Kumasi-based giants went into the matchday 27 league clash against the relegation-threatened WAFA on the back of two successive defeats.
