Impressive Super Eagles Striker Scores Crucial Goal to Help Club Secure Spanish La Liga Promotion

Nigerian international Sadiq Umar was on hand to help Almeria secure La Liga promotion after scoring in their 2-2 draw with Leganes to finish as Segunda Division winners.

Umar found the back of the net in the 53rd minute of the encounter ensuring both sides shared the spoils and helping his side to end the season with 81 points.

GOAL reports that the Rojiblancos needed a point in their last away game to guarantee themselves an automatic ticket to the Spanish topflight.

However, it was the hosts that grabbed the lead nine minutes into the encounter after Borja Garces rounded goalkeeper Fernando Martinez having been teed up by Javier Hernandez.

And Rodrigo Ely restored parity for Almeria just six minutes later as but the hosts regained the lead through Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo.

It was then the turn of fellow Nigerian Sadiq Umar who scored in the 53rd minute to draw his side level for a second time in the game, thanks to an assist from Lucas Robertone.

The highly-entertaining encounter produced no further goals and as a result, Leganes were demoted to the Spanish second tier after finishing in 19th place in the 2014-15 season.

Prior to the encounter, winger Alejandro Pozo had assured that his side can go on to secure a ticket to the La Liga for next season. He said:

“We have another shot and automatic promotion cannot escape us this time,” he told the club website.
“At this point with 80 points we should’ve earned a promotion but this year anything can happen between the three teams that are fighting for it but I truly hope that one of the two teams will be us because honestly, we’ve been at the top all season.
“Our goal is to go all out and win. We depend on ourselves and that’s vital.”

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Real Madrid fans gave their players a heroic welcome on Sunday as they flooded the streets of the Spanish capital to celebrate their 14th European glory.

The Spanish giants defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the final of the UEFA Champions League at the Stade de France on Saturday. Vinicius Jr's 58th-minute strike made the difference.

In photos shared on social media, thousands of fans greeted the players while the team paraded the trophies won this season.
