  • 2010 World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas has made a U-turn on his favourites to win the Ballon d'Or this season
  • The former Arsenal had tipped Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the coveted individual award
  • Thibaut Courtois produced a magnificent display as Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League on Saturday after beating Liverpool

Cesc Fabregas has placed Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on top of his list for the Ballon d'Or award.

The Spanish midfielder has earlier stated that the Ballon d'Or winner could be decided at the end of the UEFA Champions League game between Real Madrid and Liverpool, with Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on his initial list.

However, after the game, Fabregas changed his mind and now believes Courtois should be the man leading the Ballon d'Or debate.

"Not a big fan of individual trophies like that but surely the Ballon d'Or could/should be decided tonight? Mane? Salah? Benzema?" Fabregas posted in an earlier tweet.

Thibaut Courtois made the difference as Real Madrid won their 14th UEFA Champions League title, forcing the AS Monaco player to reverse his earlier stance.

"I would add and most probably give it to Courtois. Insane season," tweeted Fabregas after the game.

Vinicius Jr netted the only goal of the game in the second half as the Spanish giants reclaimed the title.

Thibaut Courtois named Man of the Match as Real Madrid win UEFA Champions League

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was the man of the match in the 2022 Champions League final.

The Los Blancos won the 2021/2022 Champions League as they sank Liverpool in a pulsating final at the Stade de France on Saturday, May 28.

A solitary goal from Vinicius Junior was enough for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to claim victory at the expense of Liverpool, who will have to settle for two domestic trophies this season.

Courtois praised for his heroic performance in the UCL final

Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois produced an outstanding performance in the Champions League finals as the Spanish champions clinched a record-extending 14th European title.

Courtois, who missed out on the Zamora Trophy in Spain, proved he is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world with an inspired display in post for Real Madrid.

The Belgium No. 1 proved to be a stumbling block for Liverpool, thwarting the efforts of their fearsome attack in the finals.
