Nigerian international Shehu Abdullahi has won the Cypriot Cup with Omonia Nicosia and the Super Eagles defender has expressed delight.

His side were forced to play most parts of the game against Ethnikos Achnas with 10 men after Abdullahi received a red card as early as the fifth minute of the final.

The encounter ended 0-0 at regulation time, but Omonia eventually won the tie 5-4 on penalties to claim the prestigious title.

The 29-year-old wrote:

"I am excited we finished the season on a high despite the League challenges. Our 15th Cup honours and the first since 2012. I am honoured to be part of this success.
"Since I arrived at Omonia, we have won three titles, played in Europe, and restored the club pedigree. This is for the Omonia fans for their unconditional love and support during the season, they believed in us and fought through the tough moments with us.
"It was amazing seeing them smile in thousands, flying the green colours. We could feel their emotions and we are honoured to have them support us. Love you all."

The former Buraspor defender is expected to join the rest of the Super Eagles players in their United States camp for the international friendly matches against Mexico and Ecuador.

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham has admitted that he turned down Nigeria in order to pursue an international career with England.

The English-born of Nigerian descent was vital for Jose Mourinho's side throughout the Europa Conference League, becoming the club's top scorer with nine goals.

He has gone ahead to establish himself as the livewire for the Giallorossi, becoming the highest-scoring Englishman across Europe’s big leagues this season.
