Super Eagles Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho Reacts Following Rumour That He Left National Team

• Francis Uzoho was not called up for the forthcoming friendly matches as Nigeria take on Mexico and then Ecuador
• The goalkeeper was blasted for making an error which cost Nigeria the World Cup ticket and there were rumours that he had quit the national team
• Uzoho has now debunked the news saying he is still committed to giving his best for Nigeria whenever he is called up

Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has stated that he is committed to playing for Nigeria anytime he is invited to the national team.

The Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus goalkeeper has debunked rumours that he would not like to feature for the national team any longer following criticisms after Nigeria’s World Cup debacle.

Uzoho was blamed for Nigeria’s World Cup miss after his blunder allowed Thomas Partey to score the crucial away goal that took the Black Stars to the global showpiece, Complete Sports reports.

Although Nigeria restored parity in the encounter after William Troost-Ekong equalised from the spot, but Partey’s goal already did the damage.

And on Monday, reports filtered in that after Uzoho’s name was omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador, Uzoho is no longer interested in the national team.

Reacting to the news, the former Deportivo La Coruna star has however pour cold water on the speculation. Uzoho told the Super Eagles media team:

“I’m committed to playing for my dear country anytime I’m called up.”

The 23-year-old has 18 caps for the Super Eagles.

Mexico arrive the United States for a friendly with Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported that ahead of the friendly match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Mexico squad arrived in the United States on Tuesday morning as the match is slated for Saturday, May 28.

The Nigerian Football Federation earlier confirmed that the Super Eagles will face Mexico national team and tendered an apology for the country's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The North American side have landed in Arlington ahead of the encounter slated to hold at the AT&T Stadium.
