Mexico Squad Arrive in United States Ahead of Friendly Match Against Super Eagles of Nigeria

Ahead of the friendly match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Mexico squad arrived in the United States on Tuesday morning as the match is slated for Saturday, May 28.

The Nigerian Football Federation earlier confirmed that the Super Eagles will face Mexico national team and tendered an apology for the country's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Complete Sports reports that the North American side have landed in Arlington ahead of the encounter slated to hold at the AT&T Stadium.

Also, the NFF confirmed that Nigeria will match up against Ecuador in June as the South American nation continues its preparation for the World Cup in Qatar.

The game against Ecuador has been scheduled for June 2 and will be played at the 25,000 capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.

Ecuador, who is presently rated 46th in the world by FIFA, advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany which is their first-ever World Cup appearance.

The Super Eagles on the other hand have been to the World Cup on 7 occasions and have qualified to the Round of 16 three times in 1994, 1998, and 2014.

Meanwhile, Finidi George has revealed he did not see his promotion by the Nigeria Football Federation to the first assistant role of the Super Eagles coming.

The 51-year-old, who was a vital member of the Super Eagles' Golden Generation that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994, was initially listed as the second assistant, while Salisu Yusuf was named the first assistant.

Finidi who was speaking for the first time since his change in appointment has now beckoned on all newly appointed coaches of the Super Eagles to work together.

Christian Chukwu wants Peseiro to live and work from Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported that former coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu, has told the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure the new technical adviser of the national team Jose Peseiro stays in Nigeria.

The NFF announced the appointment of Peseiro over the weekend as preparations for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers are set to commence.

Since Nigeria fired Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles have been without a substantive head coach as Augustine Eguavoen was appointed to take charge temporarily.
