Al Ahly's Pitso Mosimane Happy That Victor Gomes Will Referee CAF Champions League Final vs Wydad Casablanca

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane couldn't hide his delight after compatriot Victor Gomes was selected to officiate the CAF Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca.

The Red Devils reached the final after a convincing 6-2 win on aggregate over Algerian side ES Setif in the semi-finals. Casablanca managed to overcome Angola’s Petro Atletico de Luanda with a 4-2 victory to book a spot in the final.

As reported on KingFUT, Wydad will enjoy the noticeable advantage of going into the final with home advantage, with CAF choosing the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca as the hosting venue. This decision went down as well as one would expect in Egypt, as per SowetanLIVE.

Now, CAF has revealed that South African referee Victor Gomes will officiate the clash, set to take place next Monday night. Mosimane sent words of praise to Gomes, having time to joke about their previously fractious relationship back in South Africa.

He tweeted:

“How I used to criticise Victor Gomes, at my humble pie long time back and I am his biggest fan and he knows that. I give him the respect that he deserves and he is currently No1 Referee in the Continent."

Mosimane also took time to shower praise on Gomes' colleague Zakhele Siwela - who will head with Gomes to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - tweeting:

Just finished watching the Wydad vs A Petro Luyanda. The manner at which he managed the game, players, and the dugouts. Just like he managed Senegal vs Egypt. Can we give him the honour of Ikhamanga? Please include Zakhele Siwela.”

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane is supposedly on the radar of Qatari team Al-Rayyan.

As reported by Sports Brief, the club has since responded to the rumours that the three-time CAF Champions League had been negotiating with them in secret.

Despite his success in North Africa, Mosimane has in recent times been a target for inexplicably disgruntled legends of the club.
