Ghana striker Jordan Ayew Scores Minutes After Surviving VAR Red Card Check
- Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew scored for his side against Everton at the Goodison Park on Thursday night
- Ayew slotted home from close yards after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was forced to parry the ball into an area in the six-yard box
- Ayew's goal came not long after he swerved a red card in the 33rd minute after a VAR check
Ghana striker Jordan Ayew was on the scoresheet for Crystal Palace against relegation-threatened side Everton on Thursday evening.
The 30-year-old doubled Crystal Palace’s lead after he pounced on an error from Seamus Coleman for Everton inside the first half.
Patrick Vieira's side had opened the scoring courtesy of Jean Philippe Mateta's strike, and it wasn’t long before Ayew made it worse for Frank Lampard’s Everton side.
Ayew's goal came not long after he dodged a red card in the 33rd minute at Goodison Park.
The Black Stars striker launched himself into a wild scissor-like challenge on Anthony Gordon, which earned him a yellow card from Anthony Taylor.
Referee Taylor then delayed the restart of the game as a VAR check took place to determine whether his decision to show yellow rather than red had been a clear and obvious error.
Ayew survived this check and then rubbed salt into Everton wounds moments later.
Wilfried Zaha had a shot from the rebound, forcing Pickford to parry the ball into an area in the six-yard box where Ayew was surrounded by three defenders.
But it was Ayew who managed to control the loose ball and bundle it home to make it 2-0.
