- The former Super Eagles striker has told the NFF that the new target is for them to build a formidable team
Former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has rued Nigeria’s World Cup miss and has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to give new coach Jose Peseiro time.
Peseiro was announced as the new Super Eagles technical adviser as he will be assisted by Nigerian coaches including Finidi George, Salisu Yusuf, Usman Abdallah and Ike Shorunmu.
The new technical crew replaced Augustine Eguavoen led coaches who failed to lead the national team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
And Peseiro and his consortium are expected to take charge of the international friendlies against Ecuador and Mexico in the next few weeks.
Speaking with Brila FM, Aghahowa urges the NFF to give the new coaching crew enough time to build a new team.
Aghahowa said:
“The target should be to build a formidable team, although some people might have different opinions, but I want to see a long time plans for this team to represent this country in many tournaments and you can’t do that by playing friendlies and after few poor results and then they get kicked out. That’s not how to do it.
“You have to give the technical crew time. For example maybe four or five years, then you know what to expect.
"Not like after one tournament or qualifiers and you kick the whole technical crew out when they don’t do well and bring in someone else. You aren’t going to progress that way.”
