New Super Eagles Coach Speaks for the First Time After Getting New Role With Nigeria National Team

Finidi George has revealed he did not see his promotion by the Nigeria Football Federation to the first assistant role of the Super Eagles coming.

The 51-year-old, who was a vital member of the Super Eagles' Golden Generation that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994, was initially listed as the second assistant, while Salisu Yusuf was named the first assistant.

According to a report via Soccernet, Finidi who was speaking for the first time since his change in appointment has now beckoned on all newly appointed coaches of the Super Eagles to work together.

“I did not see that coming.
“Honestly, I didn’t even expect it. But all we need to do is ensure that all hands are on deck to ensure we work together with whosoever is coming in as head coach.”

The NFF are yet to disclose the reason behind the recent change in positions in the national team technical crew but all coaches are expected to lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador in the United States.

Meanwhile, Jose Poseiro has been given a tough assignment even before he resumes fully as the permanent coach of the Super Eagles.

According to Complete Sports, Ex-Nigerian international, Henry Nwosu has tasked Peseiro to restore the glory days of Nigeria in football.

Poseiro is set to begin his era as the new Super Eagles coach when he leads the team against Mexico and Ecuador in the upcoming international friendlies in June.

NFF appoints José Peseiro as head coach of Super Eagles

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the Nigeria Football Federation, on Sunday, May 15, announced the appointment of Joeé Santos Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

The appointment comes with immediate effect, subject to the signing of agreed terms between the NFF and Peseiro.

Peseiro played as a striker in his days and has wide and varied experience coaching top Clubs and National Teams across four different continents, namely Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
