Paseka Mako has finally returned to training with Orland Pirates, a month after his future looked in serious doubt.
Mako was involved in a serious on-field collision with his teammate and goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, which left him unconscious on the field of play.
Teammates and players from the opposition, Baroka FC, quickly rushed to shield the sight from cameras while paramedics attended to Mako on the field.
The defender was then rushed to the hospital. Thankfully Mako suffered no serious injuries but has some facial scarring from the accident.
As reported by City Press, Mako confirmed that he had returned to training. He also joked that he would the last 20 minutes of the CAF Confederation Cup final in Nigeria when Pirates take on RS Berkane.
In a rare interview since the incident, Mako spoke about his injury and how his recovery was going, Sowetan LIVE reported.
“I’m getting better and I’m happy that I am recovering well. I’m training now and I’m feeling much better.”
He also added just how much he recalled about the collision.
“I didn’t feel anything after the incident. I woke up at the hospital and asked what I was doing there because I was playing a match. It was a very bad injury.”
Mako made the comments while attending an event in Thembisa called 'Clean Up', organised by Adidas and Parley for the Oceans.

FootballMako was initially unconscious following the accident, and many feared the worst at the time. Thankfully scans showed no signs of a skull fracture or brain haemorrhage. He did sustain fractures to his face and nose, though.
The player has now been discharged and is recovering well but will not be available for the rest of the season for Pirates, iDiskiTimes reported. Prayers poured in from football fans and fellow players and coaches for the young player since the incident.

TS Galaxy coach, Sead Ramovic, put professional rivalries aside when he and a few players visited Paseka Mako in hospital. The Orlando Pirates defender was hospitalised during the week after suffering a nasty collision with Ghanaian teammate Richard Ofori.
TS Galaxy shared photos of Ramovic and players visiting Mako in hospital in a post on their Twitter account. The club captioned the photo, saying:
“We may be opponents during the 90 minutes but we are brothers for life. The entire @TSGALAXYFC Family wishes you a speedy recovery.”
