Morocco were drawn together with South Africa, Libya and Zimbabwe in one qualifying group. Libya though, have no stadiums that are FIFA or CAF approved and therefore asked to play their home games in Morocco for the qualifiers.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has now objected to this plan, saying it hands Morocco an unfair advantage, Goal.com reported.

" The South African Football Association hereby raise and officially objects to that arrangement as it goes against the principles of fair play because the Moroccan football association will travel less and enjoy the benefits of home ground advantage more than anyone in the group," SAFA’s Legal Officer, Tebogo Motlanthe said.

Mothlanthe said they understood the challenges with regards to stadiums but it could be used to hand another country an advantage. SAFA’s objection was sent to CAF but CAF are yet to respond as yet to the objection.

CAF are also dealing with other complaints about Morocco hosting games after it was announced that Morocco would host the CAF Champions League final, despite Wydad Casablanca still being in the competition.

The decision shocked Al Ahly coach, Pitso Mosimane, Sowetan LIVE responded and despite Al Ahly’s attempts to get the venue changed, CAF stuck by their decision.

Al Ahly urgently appeal to Egyptian Football Association to bid for CAF Champions League final hosting rights

Al Ahly are relentless in their efforts to get the CAF Champions League final moved from Morocco. The 2021/22 CAF Champions League final will be held in Casablanca, Morocco, on 30 May, with Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca favourites to qualify for the title decider.

The decision to award Morocco hosting rights has caused an uproar among football fans and on social media, with many accusing CAF of being corrupt, Sports Brief reported.

Al Ahly also took the fight to CAF by approaching the Court of Arbitration for Sport, claiming that CAF were unfair in handing Morocco the chance to host the final for the second year in a row. CAF defended the decision, saying that no other nation bid for the rights. CAF are also considering returning to a two-legged format for the final, to avoid controversy in the future.
