Taiwo Awoniyi was the hero as Union Berlin secured a place in the Europa League next season thanks to a 3-2 victory over Bochum on Saturday, May 14, at the Alte Foersterei in the German Bundesliga season finale.
Going into their final game of the season with the mindset of getting three points that could take the club to the Europa League, Union Berlin raced to a two-goal lead within the opening 25 minutes, Goal and Soccernet report.

Grischa Proemel gave the home team the lead after just five minutes before Awoniyi converted from the penalty spot twenty minutes later to the double the host lead.
But they were soon stunned by two second-half goals from Simon Zoller and Eduard Loewen with just 10 minutes left to play.
And with time running out, Taiwo Awoniyi reacted first to a loose ball and turned it home for the winner in the 88th minute.
Those strikes were his 14th and 15th league goals of the season. He also finished the season with 20 goals and three assists in 43 games.
