FootballBanyana Legend Portia Modise Doesn't Mince Words Blasting SAFA President Danny Jordaan, Backs Ria Ledwaba
- Former Banyana Banyana midfield magician Portia Modise has called for a change in leadership at the South African Football Association
- The comments come as the race to become the next SAFA president heats up with Danny Jordaan as the incumbent
- Modise is of the belief that Jordaan has overstayed at the helm of the organisation, with the likes of Ria Ledwaba looking to challenge him for the hot-seat
With the South African Football Association elective congress coming up, former senior national women's team captain and midfielder Portia Modise is demanding for change up top.
SAFA vice-president Ria Ledwaba, Nomsa Mahlangu and Ngoako "Solly" Mohlabeng are in the running for the presidency of the organisation, with incumbent Danny Jordaan in their sights. The Banyana Banyana legend has clearly picked a side, and Jordaan is not on hers.
According to the Daily Sun, he has been in the position since 2013 and is running for a third successive term. Modise believes he has been president long enough, and that the election should end his controversial tenure, while also backing Ledwaba.
She said:
"We used to cry to SAFA for help, but no one cared, about our issues, no one even talked about our struggles, and instead, they just swept them under the car. I told my president [Jordaan] that we need gender equality, we need to be paid equally as men. I was the top scorer in Africa living in a shack, but no one cared.
"I used to fight with this woman (Ledwaba) because I could see that she could lead. I'm glad that she finally saw my vision."
Incidentally, a press conference where Ledwaba was about to officially announce her candidacy was not without controversy. TimesLIVE reported that she had to pull out of the event after SAFA threatened to expel her.
The article reported that SAFA warned the nominated candidates not to start canvassing before their names were approved by the independent governance committee, which will oversee the elections.

FootballDoctor Khumalo takes aim at SAFA, asking why the likes of Lucas Radebe are being ignored by the organisation
Bafana Bafana great Doctor Khumalo is not particularly impressed with his former employers the South African Football Association.
As reported by Sports Brief, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfield wizard asked why the perennially under-fire organisation does not draw on the experience of people who helped the national team to success during its heyday.
He included his former teammate Lucas Radebe, with whom he enjoyed Africa Cup of Nations glory in 1996.
