Relegated GladAfrica Championship side Jomo Cosmos announced last night that midfielder Sivuyile Zozi passed away.
The announcement was made on the club's official Twitter account, though the 25-year-old's cause of death was not revealed. The player, nicknamed Zozi, died on Wednesday morning.
The tweet read:
"The Jomo Cosmos family is in mourning following the loss of one of our players , Sivuyile "Marcelo" Zozi , who signed with Ezenkosi at the start of the current season."
Another stated:
"The Club is working closely with his family to ensure that our beloved colleague receives a befitting send-off. We thank Marcelo for his dedication and service to Ezenkosi .He will be sorely missed by all of us at Ezenkosi. May his soul rest in peace."
The Daily Sun, Zozi had been part of the squad for Ezenkosi's 2-0 victory over Platinum City Rovers, playing for 75 minutes before being substituted for Thabang Rakwena.
According to SowetanLIVE, the midfielder turned out for Eastern Cape side Bizana Pondo Chiefs who were relegated from the second tier to the ABC Motsepe League last season.
Cosmos will play their final game as a professional football club against Pretoria Callies at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday at 3pm.

It’s the end of an era in South African football as Jomo Cosmos was officially relegated from the professional football leagues.
As reported by Sports Brief, Ezenkosi have been competing in the professional leagues for 39 years and are one the staples of the South African soccer scene.
The club was relegated to the GladAfrica Championship from the DStv Premiership at the end of the 2015/16 season and has been there ever since. Fans hoped they would return to the DStv Premiership, but the club dwindled.
