- Brazilians co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi said that the club was looking to bolster several positions
- This includes buying a striker who will take the weight off talisman Peter Shalulile, who has been in a scoring rampage this season
Mamelodi Sundowns is not planning to stop any time soon in terms of strengthening its squad.
The Brazilians, de facto, have come to boast at least three quality players per position in its squad. This has seen them win five consecutive DStv Premiership titles in a row among a truckload of trophies in recent years.
According to SowetanLIVE, Mngqithi said that on the club's shopping list were a striker, centre-back and midfielder. Importantly, another goal-getter in the form of red-hot Peter Shalulile to support the Namibian striker.
Mngqithi said:
"We were too reliant on Peter as much as there were many other players that shipped in with a few goals. I do believe we might still look to reinforce that area."
With regards to the midfield and defensive acquisitions he added:
"We lost Ricardo Nascimento in the left centre-back position, so we only have Mosa Lebusa as a left centre-back. “As it is now, we’ve three centre-backs out with Brian [Onyango], Rushine [De Reuck] and Grant [Kekana]."
Mngqithi also revealed that Rivaldo Coetzee's hernia injury, which kept him out of most this season, led the coaching staff to consider beefing up the midfield in his continued absence.
