Caretaker Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is imploring the club to appoint a local coach when the time comes.
The Amakhosi are currently in search of a permanent coach, with Zwane having been at the helm since Stuart Baxter was sacked last month.
Sports Brief reported that sporting director Kaizer Motaung came out to bat for Zwane yesterday, though how far this will carry his case remains to be seen. This is the second time he has been in this role, leading Chiefs to the CAF Champions League final last season, where Al Ahly emerged victorious.
According to Kick Off, Zwane was forthright in a post-match interview following Sunday's encouraging 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, saying:
"We need to empower our own people. We have to groom our coaches. At Pirates, you can see that coach Fadlu [Davids] and coach Mandla [Ncikazi] are there and with just a little bit of patience there, things will change for the better."
"That's why if we have good coaches who can come and help Kaizer Chiefs, why not? Local coaches understand where these players come from. We are dealing with sensitive issues here in this country and a lot of people take that for granted. They don't know where these boys come from."
The last time Chiefs was coached by an Mzansi coach was Steve Khompela, who resigned back in April 2018.
Benni McCarthy, Roger De Sa and Calvin Johnson where the other names being touted for the hot-seat, though the club has remained tight-lipped on who were its candidates.
