- The Super Eagles have been drawn to face Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau in African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 Qualifiers
Tijani Babangida believes the Sierra Leonean national team could cause a massive upset against Nigeria when both teams meet in the first game of the 2023 African Cup of Nation qualifiers.
The Super Eagles who are still without a substantive coach will host Sierra Leone at the Mashood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja next month.
According to a report via Complete Sport, Babangida is of the opinion that the NFF’s reluctance to name a permanent coach for the Super Eagles might hinder their preparations for the crucial game.
“I am more worried because the team will be facing Sierra Leone in a matter of weeks and the NFF is yet to settle with a new coach. Except if they want Finidi George or Salisu Yusuf to handle the game.
“But I am afraid that Sierra Leone may shock Nigeria at the Moshhod Abiola Stadium if we fail to do the right thing. NFF must put things in proper shape so that the team can move ahead on the task at hand.”
Nigeria will begin its race to win a 4th AFCON trophy next month but will have to navigate their way past Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, and either Sao Tome or Mauritius in the qualifiers.
